The Vestavia Hills Board of Education meets the last Wednesday of each month for the regularly scheduled meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the board room unless otherwise noted.

Vestavia Hills Board Members

Nathaniel H. Robin, M.D., President, is a Professor in the Departments of Genetics and Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a native of New York, graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine ('85), and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York ('89). He completed his medical training in both Pediatrics and Medical Genetics. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr Robin is an active teacher at all levels of medical education, and has won a number of awards as an educator. He was a leader in the recent curriculum overhaul at the School of Medicine, and serves on several national medical education committees. His wife, Laurie Marzullo, MD, is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at The Children's Hospital of Alabama. Mark Hogewood, Vice President, is a lawyer with Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff and Brandt. His practice is primarily in the area of civil litigation with emphasis on corporate and insurance defense, as well as insurance coverage litigation. Mark is an adjunct professor of insurance law at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He has served on the State Bar's Task Force on Adult Literacy and on the Birmingham Bar Association's Community Education and Public Service Committees. Mark attended Wake Forest University where he was selected for membership in Omicron Delta Kappa honorary and served on the Student Judicial Board. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics in 1990. He then attended Vanderbilt University School of Law and graduated in 1993. Mark was a member of the board of directors for Restoration Academy from 2005 - 2009. He is an elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church. He is currently the president of the Birmingham chapter of the Christian Legal Society. Mark served on the board of directors for the Vestavia Hills Soccer Club and was a member of Leadership Vestavia Hills Class of 2003. Nancy Corona's thirty-plus years of CPA experience led to her current position as Director of Reimbursement and Grants Accounting at The Children's Hospital of Alabama. Prior to joining the hospital on a full-time basis in 2002 she began her career at Ernst and Young and then spent 17 years in her own CPA practice. Ms. Corona is a graduate of the University of Alabama in Birmingham and has been active in professional organizations such as the Alabama Society of CPA's and the Hospital Financial Management Association. Her civic activities include serving on the Executive Boards of Better Basics, The Children's Literacy Guild, and the Beautification Board for the City of Vestavia. She is also a member of the Vestavia Hills Garden Club and the UAB Alumni Society. A long-time resident of Vestavia Hills, Ms. Corona attends St. Luke's Episcopal Church, is an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and volunteers at The Foundry. Jerry Dent is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal where he specializes in real estate advisory and environmental economics consulting. He holds a B.S. in Corporate Finance from the University of Alabama and received an M.B.A. from the University of Mississippi. Jerry previously served on boards and/or volunteered for the University of Mississippi, Kiwanis Club of Birmingham, United Way, Salvation Army, and Goodwill. He is a member of and holds various designations with several professional organizations including: Counselors of Real Estate, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and American Society of Appraisers. Shera Grant, J.D., is a Deputy Public Defender with the Community Law Office. She focuses on management of two trial teams, community outreach, and mission development. In that capacity, she created the Community Law Office Leadership Academy, a youth development program for high school students to increase academic skills, critical thinking and reasoning, and inspire students to make healthy positive life choices. In addition, she hosts monthly forums at community-based organizations discussing a variety of legal topics. Shera received her undergraduate degree from Alabama State University. After college, she attended law school at Louisiana State University. She also studied International and Comparative Law at the Universite d' Aix-Marseille III in Aix en Provence, France. Shera graduated from law school with dual degrees, Juris Doctor and a Bachelor of Civil Law. Shera serves on the board of directors for Leadership Vestavia Hills. She is also a member of both the Alabama and Georgia state bars. Her husband, Daryl Grant, is a managing director with Accenture, a global consulting, technology, and outsourcing firm.
