Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights is located directly off Highway 280 and is the "heart beat" of this Vestavia Hills community. The school sits in the center of a large campus that includes playgrounds, outdoor classrooms, ball fields for school and community, a gym, nature walk, butterfly garden, and areas filled with seasonal flowers and plants. We serve Pre-School through fifth grade, and after school care is available. The school system provides full-time nurses in every school and all special education services.
Faculty and staff support our Mission Statement and Objectives. Student learning is our focus and is achieved through strong instructional programs and purposeful professional development. Teachers follow The Alabama Courses of Study and National Standards for all academic areas. In addition to reading, writing, math, social studies, science and physical education, every student has the opportunity to receive instruction in Spanish, art, music, and library education. All work designed for instruction is purposeful, developmentally appropriate, and engaging. Our new interactive classrooms include, but are not limited to, Promethean boards, document cameras, sound systems, ceiling mounted LCD projectors, and iMac desktop computers. We have MacBook mobile labs and an iPod lab. Our goal is to integrate technology in all academic areas.
Students have opportunities to participate in a variety of activities. We have a chess club which meets once a week during breakfast. Fourth and fifth grade students can be recognized as Student Ambassadors, an opportunity for leadership, as well as for service to the school and community. Students participate in Jump Rope for Heart, National Spelling Bee, Green Team, Safety Patrol, Math Olympiad, Mercedes Marathon, and Red Ribbon Week, to name a few. We encourage participation in extracurricular school and service-oriented activities.
Parents are very involved in the school as volunteers and as members of the PTO. We have 100% membership in the PTO. Children invite their parents for lunch and breakfast and for the special music and art programs, as well as PE events, and book fairs. We invite everyone to find their area of interest and to be a partner in their child's education.
