Technology at VHEW

The iPod Touch Lab is being used in a variety of ways here at VHEW. Many teachers are now using the iPod Touch to record students reading to practice their fluency. Another class has been recording students reading poetry. A third grade class has been recording poetry and soon will participate in an activity called Voice Thread. This is an interactive activity where the student's work is on a shared website and all students will have the opportunity to join in to express positive ideas about the work that has been created. The students will have a choice to either voice or write their comments.

Another positive move in technology at VHEW is the Flip Video. A small HD video camera held in the hand of the students. Several classes are participating in this great way of videoing reader's theater, reading fluency, keynote presenation or a newscast. A second grade class created several newscast about literature they have recently been reading in class. We also had one third grade class create a Keynote presentation on Haiti. Students were videoed explaining how they felt about the earthquake and why they want to help. It is great to know that students can film other students producing activities in the classroom. All of these can be viewed on our VHEW Website --> Classes--> Videos.

Technology is continuing to improve in all areas at VHEW and we are so excited here to see students in charge of what they are producing! Wow - remember these students are K-3!
