    Metro South Conference Teams and Directions


    Liberty Park has 7th and 8th grade teams for girls and boys. Basketball is open to any student with a composite averalge of 70 or above. Each team will have about 12 players.

    Girls basketball season runs from November through the end of January. Some practices/open gyms will occur during the Thanksgiving and winter breaks.

    Boys basketball season runs from November through the end of January. Both teams play in the Metro South League. During the school days, practices will start after school and will last around two hours. Some practices/open gyms will occur during the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks.

    The Liberty Park Middle School bowling team is open to 7th and 8th grade girls and boys who have met all eligibility requirements set forth by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Bowling is a Winter sport with the season spanning from late October and running through late January. The girls' and boys' bowling teams practice and have home matches at the Brunswick Riverview Lanes on Highway 280, next to the Super Target.

    Cheerleading is a sport available to interested 7th and 8th graders. To qualify to be a cheerleader, you must have no less than an "S" in conduct, maintain a "C" average, and attend the Cheerleader Clinic in the Spring. Practices are held Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:30. Cheerleaders perform at all pep rallies, home and away football games, home basketball games, etc. Also, cheerleaders will be placed on one of two teams to have the opportunity to represent the school as leaders and competitors. LPM Cheerleaders are expected to be positive role models and school leaders!

    Cross Country & Track

    Cross Country and Track are open to 7th and 8th graders subject to the approval of the track coach. Cross Country is available during the fall. Students run two miles at meets. During practices, students run various distances. Track is available during the spring. Students have a variety of events from which to choose. Each athlete may enter up to four events. Practices are held from 3:15 - 4:30 P.M. after school.

    Football at Liberty Park is offered to anyone in the 7th and 8th grade with a composite average of 70 or above. No tryouts are held. The 7th grade team and the 8th grade team practice separately and play separate schedules. Practice begins in early August. On school days, practice is held after school and lasts until around 5:30 p.m. during the season.

    Golf at Liberty Park is offered to anyone in the 7th or 8th grade with a composite average of 70 or above. Tryouts are held in late February or early March. There is one team for both the 7th and 8th grade. The home course for the girls' team is Vestavia Country Club and the boys' home course is Old Overton. The season lasts from the end of February until the third week in April. Most practices and matches are held after school. Players get to play at some of the best courses in Birmingham during the season including Old Overton, Inverness, Timberline, BCC, VCC and the Mountain Brook Club.

    Students in the 7th and 8th grade may try out for the tennis team. Practice begins shortly after tryouts, which take place in January.

    Girls in the 7th and 8th grade may try out for the volleyball team. Tryouts for the volleyball team are held in the spring. Practices are after school Monday through Friday during volleyball season, which lasts from August to October. Matches are typically held on Mondays and Wednesdays. Team members also attend a team camp, held in late July.

    Wrestling is an extremely physical but very rewarding sport. Competitors score both individual & team points. This sport is open to both seventh and eight graders, and there are no try outs. The season stretches from November through February. A pre-season parents' meeting will be held in late October. Contact the coaches for more information.
