2021-22 Teaching and Learning Plan

  • Note: This plan is subject to change.

    Traditional Learning Model

In the Traditional Learning Model, students will meet on campus each day for a full day of learning and activities. Lessons, content, and instruction will be provided by VHCS teachers, and content will be aligned to Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Content Standards.

    Remote Learning Model

The Remote Learning Model is designed for students in grades 6-12 who notified the school system before the end of the 20-21 school year that they wish to receive instruction from home. Vestavia Hills City Schools teachers will not be providing remote learning instruction. All virtual courses offered are aligned to the Alabama State Department of Education Content Standards.  Students who enrolled in the Remote Learning Model for the 21-22 school year will remain in that model until the end of the school year. As is the case with the Traditional Learning Model, all students in the Remote Learning Model will receive a VHCS Chromebook to use for the entire school year. Students who are in the Remote Learning Model will be able to participate in athletics and extracurricular activities at their base school.

    Emergency Triage Model

In the event of a school closure mandated by state or local officials, all K-12 students enrolled in the Traditional Learning Model will shift to the Emergency Triage Model. This instructional model is designed to be used only in the event that students, faculty, and staff are unable to return to their campuses for an extended period of time. The Emergency Triage Model will include required daily and/or weekly work, and assignments will be graded. The model will be a continuation of the traditional model offered virtually.
