Welcome to the Best Middle School in America!
David Miles, Principal
As principal of Pizitz, let me be the first to welcome you to Pirate Country and congratulate you on your choice to be a part of "The Best Middle School in America". We not only believe this statement, we live it every day.
Our daily challenge for ourselves and for our students is to continually look for more and better ways to offer a challenging and substantive curriculum in a nurturing and caring, age-appropriate environment. How are we doing?
-A Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award from the U.S.
Department of Education
-A full spectrum of foreign language offerings: Spanish, French, and German
-A variety of practical electives, such as Tech Lab, Family and
Consumer Science, and Speech and Drama
-An award-winning fine arts program consisting of Band (almost 400
students), Choir (almost 300 students) and Art (125 students)
-The highest over-all SAT-10 test scores of any middle school in
Alabama in 2003
-Many honor and recognition programs to "catch kids doing it right":
-A-slips, recognition cards, Student of the Week, Citizenship Awards,
-A variety of mind-, character-, and spirit-building student activities
such as cheerleading, dance team, majorettes, Pirate Girls,
A.C.T.S., Skywatchers, academic teams (Math, Scholars Bowl,
Knowledge Master Open), T.S.A. Club, Student Government, boys
and girls athletics, and many more.
But also part of being the best is having the vision to see how much better
you can be -- and this is our vision at Pizitz: to always look ahead and find
a path that will take us to the next level of excellence. We invite you,
whether as a parent, student, or community member, to join us in fulfilling
that vision so that we can always justly claim the honor of "Best Middle
School in America"!
