 Louis Pizitz Middle SchoolAnnouncements Parents    Students received Scoliosis Screening forms during homeroom Friday.  If you would like your child screened by the school nurse in March, please return the form to the office by February 8.  Scoliosis Opt In Form Attention Parents of 8th graders:  On February 4, Help the Hills will come to Pizitz to talk with 8th grade students about academics during 4th period. They will be discussing GPA, study habits, and success at the high school. They will not be discussing course selection with them during this time. Please contact Ms. Payne if you have any questions at payneac@vestavia.k12.al.us. PITCH IN at PIZITZ starts TODAY, February 4!  Last year, Pizitz raised $4,000 in one week! This year, our goal is to raise over $4,000! Please help us make our goal! The students in the grade that raises the most money will win a FREE TREAT from BRUSTER’S!  Will you PITCH IN so every student can WIN? Questions? Deborah Newsom, deborah3528@att.net, http://vestaviafoundation.org/giving/ We are excited to announce that Ms. Heidi Fishman, author of the book, Tutti’s Promise, will be coming to lead a writer’s workshop for our 6th grade students and will share her mother’s Holocaust story in a school wide assembly on April 3, 2019. Sixth grade students will be reading Tutti’s Promise before her arrival in April.  Your child can purchase a signed copy of her memoir by completing and returning the order form by February 4. The boys who signed up with Coach Prewitt for the boys' golf team will need to attend a mandatory meeting on Wednesday, 2/6, during 8th period in Coach Prewitt's room #202.Any 6th or 7th grader interested in trying out for the Pizitz Pirate Ambassadors for next school year: There will be an informational meeting Tuesday, February 5th during 8th period in the Old Gym. Come and hear about all of the exciting things we will do to help with out as we transition to a new campus next year! Special guests from the high school will attend! Congratulations to the Wrestling Team for winning the Metro South Championship Tournament.  The entire team wrestled great and every member of the team contributed to the victory.  Individual finishers for Pizitz were:
   6th Place - William Douglass at 157 lbs
   5th Place -  Mac Chandler at 97 lbs; Elliot Gilbert at 167 lbs
   4th Place - Luke Dutton at 127 lbs; Mark Rainey at 137 lbs; Jack McMurray at 177 lbs
   3rd Place - Hastings Roberts at 114 lbs
   2nd Place - Sam Smith at 105 lbs; Clay Barnes at 167 lbs
   1st Place and Metro South Champions - Samuel Johnson at 87 lbs; Clay Johnston at 121 lbs; Riggs Manown at 147 lbs; Henry Maddox at Heavyweight.
Samuel Johnson won the Best Match of the Finals Award for his come from behind victory. 
The team would like to thank Mrs. Hanson, Mr. Carpenter, and Mrs. Hyatt for all their support throughout the season.  The team would also like to thank Coach McKenzie for his help and support throughout the season.  The team would also like to thank Mrs. Knickrehm and the Pirate Ambassadors for their support during the season.  And finally, the team would like to thank the entire student body for their support.  Thank you for a tremendous year.    If you would like to purchase a "Kindness" t-shirt, please see Mrs. Smith in the library for an order form or download the form from the SGA website HERE. Each shirt is $20 and all proceeds go to Children's Hospital. Order forms and payment are due to Mrs. Smith by Wednesday, February 13.   The VHHS German Honor Society is having a Video Competition.  See Frau Rogers, Room #152 for more information or pick up an informational flyer at front desk.  Entries are due by February 22. to Google Classroom Code: n5cvzx.

 Extracurricular ATTENTION all 6th and 7th grade GIRLS- If you are interested in trying out for the 2019-2020 Cheerleading Squad (either Football/Basketball OR Volleyball/Basketball), clinic will be held from Monday, March 4th through Wednesday, March 6th. Current 7th graders will tryout on Thursday, March 8th and current 6th graders will tryout on Friday, March 9th.   All girls interested in trying out will need to:
   1) turn in updated physical, $35.00 tryout fee, report card and mandatory dates form to Mrs. Brown in room 249 by Wednesday, 2/20, at 3:05pm and    2) upload to and complete ALL EIGHT forms in the AHSAA’s DragonFly system by Wednesday, February 20th.
