Superintendent finalists announced

December 14, 2017 -- At Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting, Dr. Terry Jenkins, the Board’s superintendent search consultant, announced the names of four finalists for the superintendent’s position.

The finalists, in alphabetical order, are:

Dr. Ronnie A. Dotson, Superintendent of the Carter County School District in Kentucky
Dr. Michael Todd Freeman, Superintendent of Sylacauga City Schools in Alabama
Dr. Patrick Martin, Superintendent of Gardendale City Schools in Alabama
Dr. Shawn K. Wightman, Superintendent of Marysville Public Schools in Michigan

All four finalists are currently superintendents, all four have prior teaching and principal experience, and all four have doctorate degrees.

One of the next steps in the selection process will be an opportunity for the community to meet each candidate at a reception and to observe a formal interview by the Board of Education. The receptions and interviews will be held on January 4, 5, 8, and 9 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the new gymnasium at Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights.
