Board of Education November Recognitions

November 26, 2019 -- The Vestavia Hills Board of Education on Monday night took time to recognize two students and one teacher for their recent achivements.

Jeremy Andrews, Alabama PE Teacher of the Year

Jeremy Andrews has been named Alabama Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (ASAHPERD). Jeremy has been the PE teacher at Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights for the past 12 years. 

 

Ethan Strand and Crawford West, state champions in cross country

Ethan Strand and Crawford West were winners of individual 7A state championships in cross country at the state meet on Nov. 10. VHHS junior Ethan Strand won the boys’ 5K race in 15 minutes and 18.58 seconds to defend his state title. VHHS sophomore Crawford West won the girls’ race in 18 minutes and 7.92 seconds to earn her first individual state title. This was the first time in school history that VHHS swept the individual state cross country championships, and the third-straight year a VHHS male student won the individual championship (Ethan Strand in 2018, James Sweeney in 2017).
