VHHS We the People team wins 16th consecutive state title
February 18, 2020 — The Vestavia Hills High School We the People team continued its longstanding winning streak in January.
The mock Congressional team represented Alabama’s sixth Congressional district at the state competition, which was held this year at American Village in Montevallo. Students competed against three other Congressional districts to successfully defend its state championship.
This marks the 16th consecutive state championship for the VHHS We the People team.
The VHHS team will represent the state of Alabama at the 33rd annual We the People national competition in April. Approximately 1,200 students from 56 communities will participate in this event, which takes place at the National Conference Center in the Washington, D.C. area.
During the National Finals, students will participate in simulated congressional hearings. Students testify as constitutional experts before panels of judges acting as congressional committees scoring the groups through a performance-based assessment.
