Vestavia Hills Elementary West receives Promising Practice Award

character dot org June 8, 2020 -- Vestavia Hills Elementary West was awarded a 2020 Promising Practice Award by Character.org for its implementation of “Connect Five.” Connect Five is a grassroots effort via the school’s counseling department in which five adults within the school building are connected with a TIER III student in order to support their social and emotional needs. Adults include: school secretaries, special area teachers, custodians, lunchroom workers, academic interventionists, and instructional coaches. It is a systemic approach to allow students with social and emotional needs feel connected to more adults than their general education teacher alone.
