2019 - 2020

Summary:

244 of the seniors will graduate with the Advanced Academic with Honors Endorsement on their diplomas

  • 85% going to four-year colleges
  • 7% going to two-year colleges
  • 8% entering military, working full-time, or taking a “gap year”
  • 20% will enroll in 58 different colleges in 26 states and the District of Columbia outside of Alabama 
  • Those staying in Alabama will enroll in 21 different colleges and universities
  •   15 National Merit Finalists
  • 8   National Merit Commended Students
  • 73% of the graduates were offered scholarships. The amount offered is more than $34 million dollars (the most in school history) and the amount accepted is more than $14 million. 

 

Academic Accomplishments:

  • The “We the People” Team won the district and state competition for the 16th year in a row and won the Southeast region at nationals. 

- The math team continued to win local, state, and regional                   competitions, including the Log1 contest, sponsored by Mu Alpha Theta, where it had the highest score in the country.

-    1,243 Advanced Placement Exams were administered to 600 students

 

Arts Accomplishments 

At the Walter Trumbauer State Theatre Competition

  • 1st Place Solo Male Contemporary Dramatic 
  • 1st Place Duet Acting Contemporary Comedic
  • 1st place Solo Female Musical Comedic 
  • 28 students received a superior rating for their individual events 

 

At the Alabama Thespian Festival 

  • 1st place Chapter Select to advance to represent the state of Alabama at the International Thespian Festival Among Friends and Clutter

  • Alabama Thespians Scholarship recipient 

-We won the Tech Challenge for the State of Alabama 

-We hosted the Alabama State Thespian Festival which had an attendance of over 1300 students and parents. 

-Over 120 students were to be involved in the musical from actors, orchestra and technical theatre students. 

-We won a 10,000 dollar grant from the Alabama Arts Education Initiative Grant. That grant finished a cycle of receiving 40,000 in grants for our school.



Athletic Accomplishments

Vestavia Hills High School has 24 different athletic teams for our male and female students.

 

 12 of our teams qualified for postseason play

-Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Football, Volleybal, Boys Swimming & Diving, Girls Swimming & Diving, Boys Bowling, Girls Bowling, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Indoor track, Girls Indoor track

-Our spring’ season was cut short and therefore Girls Tennis, Boys Tennis, Baseball, Boys Golf, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Boys Outdoor Track, Girls Outdoor Track did not have the chance to qualify for postseason play

-Ethan Strand (2021 Graduate) state champion cross country

-Crawford West (2022 Graduate)  state champion cross country, indoor track 3200m

-Jack Lamey (2023 Graduate) wrestling 145 pound weight class

-Sam Willoughby (2020 Graduate) wrestling 170 pound weight class

-John Edwards (2022 Graduate) wrestling 160 pound weight class

-Chad Merrill- Alabama Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the year

-Brigid Meadow- NFHS South Section Girls Soccer Coach of the year, National High School Coaches Association Girls Soccer Coach of the year

Philanthropy:

-    RISE raised over $201,000 for the O' Neal Comprehesive Cancer Center. This endeavor was named a Top 10 Community Service Project in America by Varsity Brands for the 2nd year in a row.

 -     $56,000 was raised for our fall charity, Ady’s Army and 16,000 canned goods were donated. 

-    This is just a sample of many more activities related to community service that occur throughout Vestavia Hills High School.
