Board of Education October 2021 Recognitions

October 28, 2021 -- The Vestavia Hills Board of Education on Monday took time to recognize several students and administrators for their recent accomplishments:

National Merit Semifinalists

13 seniors at Vestavia Hills High School have been named Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The students are among 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide who will have the opportunity to compete for some $30 million in scholarships. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of high school seniors in the U.S.

National Merit Semifinalists at VHHS are: Maria Deng, Ranee Brady, Margaret Patton, Christina Sorochinsky, Catherine Kramer, Katelynn Holt, Savan Patel, Jonathan Wilson, Ethan Wylie, John Ham, Brian Chen, Frank Qiang, and John Paul Pierre.

Vestavia Hills High School Habitat for Humanity Club

The Vestavia Hills High School Habitat for Humanity Club completed its second annual “Love Your Neighbor Week” in September. The 2021 Love Your Neighbor Week included a day of community service, a school support day, a “shop local” day, a day encouraging community members to support local restaurants, and a community concert in Wald Park. As part of the week, students raised more than $7,000 through individual donations to provide every employee in Vestavia Hills City Schools with a boxed lunch from Chick-fil-A. Proceeds from Love Your Neighbor Week will be applied toward the group’s efforts to build a home this spring for a family in the greater Birmingham area.

National Principals Month

Not only have they gone above and beyond to ensure their students’ academic success, they’ve also worked tirelessly to protect the health and safety of every person in their schools. Principals in Vestavia Hills City Schools are: Danielle Tinker, Dr. Ty Arendall, Dr. Mark Richardson, Blair Inabinet, Kim Hauser, Roger Dobnikar, Dr. Alicia Hunsberger, David Howard, and Tonya Rozell.
